Sinks & Faucets
Sink & Faucet Options
Every kitchen needs a sink and faucet. They are typically made from stainless steel, enamel-coated cast iron, solid surfaces, and composites. When it comes to selecting these staples, style should be secondary to function. You should consider how you plan to use the sink and faucet. Here are a few scenarios to consider.
Stainless Steel Sinks
If you have chosen solid surface countertops such as granite or engineered stone, a stainless steel sink may be best for your needs as it offers under-mount capabilities. Also if you are “hard” on your sink meaning you tend to just throw things in stainless steel is also the best option for you. When choosing a stainless steel sink keep in mind a lower-gauge stainless steel makes for a better quality sink.
Enamel-Coated Cast Iron Sinks
We may all agree they are eye-pleasing of all the sinks on the market. But enamel can scratch and wear over time, which may not make this sink the best choice for people who are not extra gentle with their sinks.
Solid Surface Sinks
If you are looking for ease of clean-up, a solid surface sink may be for you. Although they can be vulnerable to scratches they can usually be buffed out. However solid surface sinks are prone to chips, and transferring hot pots and pans directly from the cooktop to the sink can potentially damage solid surfaces.
Composite Sinks
There are several types of composite sinks on the market, with polyester/acrylic being one of them. They are available in many colors to choose from. They may be appealing to homeowners on a budget as they will be offered at a lower price point. But keep in mind polyester/acrylic sinks are not as durable as other sink options and if installed as a drop-in sink can be more difficult to clean.
Faucet Options
With all the faucets on the market you can easily find a design that will fit your needs. But be mindful that the kitchen faucet is a hugely important fixture. You use your faucet countless times daily and for a wide variety of tasks – filling pots, washing dishes, rinsing produce, even taking a drink – and having the right one will make your day considerably easier.
But the two features to consider are function and finishes.
Faucet Finishes
There are tons of options when it comes to faucet finishes. But the main thing to remember is that the finish on your faucet is just as important as the style. You want something that fits well with your overall design scheme.
